Video coverage is often an extension of media journalist work which includes books, travel, interviews, and a reservoir of critical thinking, satire, and public engagement. Independent journalism is on the brink of becoming obsolete.
Freedom of speech is being shafted by cancel culture censorship and netiquette algorithms flagging content instead of using a RATING scale for audiences that satisfies video content.
Banning video journalism gives ANY invisible authority on ANY online forum the power to discredit creative content being uploaded which essentially abolishes freedom of speech.
Video creators who are flagged for adult language, adult views, controversial topics, or dark humor become discredited by social media algorithms for "hate speech" and are then subjected to being banned by all media network platforms.
The ONLINE ACCESS NETWORK needs to devise an appropriate platform for creative content that is diversified enough to include strong language and political views within a reasonable range of humane standards that aligns with societal lawfulness and tactful adult journalism.
A rating scale for audiences and categories for content supports freedom of speech. Removal of account holders from online portals bans online audiences from accessing their work.
Poor or questionable video content is subject for review by all media platforms. Being banned for questionable content can result from a knee-jerk consequence of a media authority disagreeing with a point of view.
If content is truly questionable, the standards for revision should give video creators the opportunity to edit or alter threatening material and any review board should uphold a fair standards base that aligns with freedom of speech.
Any media forum can essentially scrap poorly revised content to a subcategory that can fit whatever title they give it. Applying ratings that limit viewer access due to controversial material is one management tool. Extending guidelines for user management of video material is often based on universal policy for acceptable social conduct; but to obstruct view and use of online portals and video access is censorship when in the action of banning creative content, the incentive for doing so is potentially biased and based on personal disagreement with the content, the content creator, or opposing views.
Do no harm is a universal concept that is observed by most video creator media platforms. How this ideology is enforced matters.
Banning independent journalists compromises social media integrity. The topics conveyed by online journalism often contain in-depth analysis due to the intensity and often graphic nature of the human condition. Some topics are flagged as "misinformation" or "hate speech" to silence controversial material from view. These matters of public importance should not be obstructed by media networks just because they may include adult content.
Viewer discretion ratings assist management of social media forums when topics in videos present controversial human complexities. The spectrum of reporting information is vast. Critical analysis is the responsibility of the viewer not the agency hosting a portal for viewing content.
As with most visual media content released to the public, screening content for violence, nudity, hate speech, political views, and adult content can be personified via a viewer discretion scale that limits viewing accessibility to specific audiences and flags for unlawful practices that warrant intervention for safety.
Social media bannings are equivalent to book burnings. Culturally complex communications that are perceived as disruptive or unwelcome to societal norms must be reviewed with care for potentially harmful consequences; however, using any adopted protocol for penalty actions upon reviewing video content must simultaneously protect the creative rights guarding freedom of speech.
The value of speech is significant to our self-expression, our connection to each other, and humanity itself.
